I don't think there would be too many places in the world where you
can see a mosque, an several Art Galleries, kareoke restuaraunts, and
Chinese, Vietnamese, Greek businesses all in a few hundred meters.
And that's not a comprehensive list! It's a special place.
I am currently studying for Master of Communications (Photomedia)
degree at Edith Cowan University and exploring the uncanny in
photography. I enjoy using alternative processes including tintypes,
daguerreotypes and pinhole photographs.
I have taken up photography quite recently, in the past three years.
In part this is an extension of my interest in learning, having
previously studied anthropology, history and philosophy.
I was drawn to photography because it combines for me a love of art
and facination with the world. I feel a sense of wonder at seeing
an image through a camera obscura, watching a photograph develop, or a
dagurreotye image appear on a sheet of silver, to me these things are
a kind of magic. I know I would not get that feeling from doing any
other form of art.

I live and work in the Northbridge area. It's a great area to
photograph as it's part of Perth where you can see the history of the
city in the people who live there, the buildings and the businesses.
All along William Street, where I walk daily, you can see traces of
past inhabitants and a great mix of cultures.
