Sean Ashley

As a student photographer from Arizona, going to college in New Mexico, I have been taking pictures for four years, on and off...mostly off. I intend to get more serious about it this year because I believe I have talent, but it needs to be prodded and poked out of seclusion. I am influenced by the local photographers, seeing their work makes me want to get out in the field and produce my own work. There is a great subject matter all around my envioroment that needs to be recorded.

My inspiration comes from my past; my father was a Criminal Investigator so I snuck peeks into his classroom material - crime scene photos, pictures of evidence, deceased bodies. The stark realism translates so boldly through black and white that it creates an unsettling mood. Plus, I grew up being entertained by horror movies so their tone is what I mimic. Eerie, creepy, crawley, lots of light, loads of shadows being streched across a single frame make for an experience that relies solely on the viewers imagination.
